Phenom Parent Code of Conduct

1. Support and Encourage

Positive Reinforcement: Always encourage your child and their teammates. Praise efforts as much as results.

Respect for Coaches: Support the decisions and authority of the coaching staff. Avoid undermining their decisions in front of your child.

Encourage Team Spirit: Promote teamwork, effort, and sportsmanship over individual performance.

2. Respect for Officials

No Confrontation:  Never confront referees or officials during or after the game. Accept their decisions as part of the game.

Understand the Role:  Acknowledge that officials are there to ensure the game is played fairly and according to the rules.

3. Behavior During Games

Positive Cheering: Cheer in a positive manner, supporting all players, not just your child.

No Negative Comments: Refrain from negative comments, booing, or yelling at players, coaches, or officials.

Sportsmanship: Model good sportsmanship through respectful and supportive behavior.

4. Communication

Constructive Feedback: If you have concerns, address them constructively with the coach in private, away from the players and other parents.

Open Dialogue: Encourage open communication with your child about their experience, making sure they know they can talk to you about both positive and negative aspects.

5. Role Model

Set an Example: Behave in a way that you would want your child to emulate. Demonstrate respect, integrity, and fair play.

Avoid Alcohol and Drugs: Do not consume alcohol or drugs before or during games and practices. Ensure a safe environment for all.

6. Attendance and Punctuality

Be On Time: Ensure your child arrives on time for practices and games. Pick them up promptly afterwards.

Commitment: Encourage your child to attend all practices and games, emphasizing the importance of commitment to the team.

7. Understand the Game

Learn the Rules: Make an effort to understand the basic rules of basketball. This will help you appreciate the game and the decisions made by coaches and officials.

Appreciate the Effort: Recognize that youth sports are about learning and growth. Playing in a game doesn’t make players better, practice is where players get better.

8. Conflict Resolution

Calm Approach: Handle any conflicts calmly and privately. Use appropriate channels to resolve issues, such as speaking with the coach or league officials.

No Public Disputes: Avoid public disputes with other parents, coaches, or officials. Maintain a respectful demeanor at all times.

9. Social Media Conduct

Positive Posts: Use social media responsibly. Post positive comments about the team, players, and the organization.

Privacy Respect: Respect the privacy of players, coaches, and other parents.

10. Long-term Development

Focus on Growth: Emphasize personal and athletic development over immediate success. Encourage a growth mindset in your child.

Enjoyment of the Game: Ensure that your child is enjoying their basketball experience. Encourage a love for the game over the pressure to perform.
